From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:
Retha Santi Corieri, 88, of Ames, died on Monday June 29, 2015 at Iowa Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames, with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7p.m.
Retha was born on April 25, 1927 at Zook Spur, Iowa, a small coal mining town south of Madrid. She was the daughter of Adelmo and Katherine Lazzaretti Santi. She married Eitlo "Bud" Corieri on August 23, 1952 and they were blessed with four children.
Retha and her belated husband, Bud Corieri, were most known for the Safari restaurant in Ames, in which her passion for Italian cooking was the foundation. She was a daughter of an Italian immigrant coal mining family. Retha went on to be the first of her family to earn a college degree. She was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye fan, from which she earned her degree in commerce in 1949. She was a devoted supporter of the arts and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Retha was preceded in death by her husband Bud of sixty years. She is survived by her children, Kimberly (John) of Ankeny, Rosalind (William) Paige of Abbeville, SC, Leslie (Diane) Corieri of Phoenix, AZ and Kelly (Andrew) White of Urbandale, 8 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Rubie Santi Patrick of Madrid.
As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
