From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Dr. James A. Buck age 88, of Ames, died July 8, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Collegiate Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Jim was born in Ames on February 20, 1927, the son of Harold and Margaret Buck. He graduated from Ames High School in 1945, where he played on the football team, captained the State Championship Basketball Team and was a State Medalist in Golf. He received his BS from Iowa State University and his DDS from the University of Iowa in 1953. He was a lifelong Ames resident. On December 28, 1948 he married Margaret Leonard in Chariton, Iowa. He was a Captain in the Air Force stationed in England. He joined Buck Dental Office with his father Harold Buck and his brother William Buck in 1955. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon and Elder, Director of Ames Jaycees, Ames Noon Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Ames High School Hall of Fame, Delta Sigma Delta, Iowa State Athletic Council, Beta Theta Phi (Oma Kron Kappa) OKU (Honorary Fraternity) American Dental Association and Iowa Dental Association. Jim enjoyed all sports, especially golf. He was a member at Ames Golf and Country Club.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Connie (Eric) Bappe, and Sara (Chuck) DeKovic; grandchildren, Jamie (Rochell) Smith, Ian (Ashley) Smith, Trevor Smith, Joe Bappe, Nick DeKovic, and Tanner DeKovic; great-grandchildren Kaden, Raymond, and Baylee Smith; two brothers Robert (Anne) Buck and J. Ben (Sarah) Buck, nieces and nephews, and his best friend Mary Jane Clithero.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margie Buck and his brother, William Buck.

Memorials may be directed to: Ames High School Booster Club or Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.
