Gary Lee Hemann of Collins, IA passed away Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 in Des Moines, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held at United Methodist Church, 225 3rd Ave, Collins, IA on Saturday July 11th, 2015 at 11:00am. Per Gary’s wishes, please dress casual for the service.

Gary Lee Hemann was born in Osage, IA on April 26, 1954 to Sylvester and Delores (Dostart) Hemann. He graduated from Osage Community High School in 1972. On May 20th, 1977, he was united in marriage with Marjorie Fetters Lack. To this union came two children, Jaimie and Joseph. In March of 2008 he met Janet Freyermuth. Gary and Janet loved gardening, riding horses, and camping.

Grateful for having shared his life are fiancé Janet, of Collins, IA; his mother, Delores, Osage, IA; former wife, Marjorie of Rochester, MN; his children: Jaimie (Josh) Heeren of Madrid, IA, Joseph (Brandi) of Des Moines, IA; step-son, Chris Lack, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren Trinity and Elizabeth Heeren, Nate and Grace Hemann, Cassandra (Christopher) Whitley: great grandchildren: Tessa, Hailey and Brooklynn Lukehart, St. Joseph, MO: sister: Deb (John) Felton, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers: Dan (Nancy) Hemann, Parkersburg, IA Lynn (Rhonda) Hemann, Osage, IA, Doug (Crystal) Hemann, Grundy Center, IA and Tim (Denise) Hemann, Marshalltown, IA. Janet’s sons: Aaron (JJ) Freyermuth, Jason Freyermuth, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Anastasia, Alexander, Anora and Mason Freyermuth; Janet’s 4 brothers and spouses; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, family and special friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, his sister Marlys Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and will be distributed to Taylor Hospice House, United Methodist Church, Collins EMT and ambulance services for all of their help in the last 2 years.
