DEATH OF PIONEER CITIZEN.
A. C. ELLIOTT
A. C. Elliott, age 73, died at two o'clock Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. J. Benjamin on Locust street. The funeral will be held from the Benjamin home on Saturday afternoon at 3:00. The services will be simple, there being a short talk by his old friend, W. P. Payne, and possibly by Allen Jay. Interment will be in the Nevada cemetery. The service will be in accord with the wish of Mr. Elliott.
Abner C. Elliott was a native of Kane county, Ill., where he was born July 22, 1844. He came with his parents, John and Elsie Elliot, to Story county in 1863 and upon the twenty-second anniversary of his birth he was united in marriage to Miss. Elizabeth J. Wells in this city. They made their home on a farm in Johnson's Grove, northeast of this city for a number of years, after which they moved to Nevada, and this has since been their home, their residence being at the corner of Lynn and Second avenue south.
Two daughters were born to them, they being Mrs. Katie Earl of Richland township and Mrs. Carrie Benjamin of this city. They, with the wife and mother, survive the husband and father.
Mr. Elliott had never had occasion to call a physician, in fact had never been ill a day in his life until he was taken down about three months ago. Investigation showed that he was suffering from a cancer of the stomach. An operation was attempted but it developed that the matter had gone so far that such was impossible and he has since been growing weaker until the end relieved him of his suffering.
Besides his wife and daughters he leaves one sister, Mrs. Elsie Murray, who has made her home with him until recently, when she went over to Ames and has been staying with a nephew. One brother Edward Elliot died some years ago and a sister, Mrs. D. Pattee died a few years ago, also leaves two granddaughters who are Mrs. Frank Clark and Miss Eva Earl.
