Frances Louise Allen was born on June 20, 1925 to Raymond and Olie (Sauer) Stansberry in Wapello County in southeast Iowa. She attended school in the small town of Farson, Iowa. Frances graduated valedictorian of her class and excelled in the sport of basketball, winning numerous All-State honors and was chosen 1st Team All-American in a national AAU tournament at the age of 18.

Frances briefly taught in a country school in Wapello County and then worked for a period of time in San Francisco supporting the war effort. After the war ended, she returned home to Farson and in 1946 married her former classmate and neighbor, Arthur Allen, the boy next door who looked quite dashing in his Navy uniform. In 1950, they moved to Sheldahl and raised six children. Frances was a member of the Sheldahl United Methodist Church for close to 60 years, where she taught the tradition of giving hugs to everyone attending church. Frances often shared she gave her life to the Lord at the age of 12 at Farson Baptist Church, with the help of her sisters in leading her to Christ.

Frances enjoyed bird watching, fishing, gardening and reading, and was a St. Louis Cardinals and San Antonio Spurs fan.

Frances passed away at 89 years of age on Sunday morning, June 14, 2015 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, after suffering a stroke on June 5.
