Death of Mrs. Day
Maria Pease was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1846, and died at her home in Greencastle, Iowa, Thursday, Feb. 19, 1903, age 77 years, 10 months and 6 days. The cause of death was complications of lagrippe.
The deceased was married in the state of Indiana in 1866 to Thos. J. Day and moved to Iowa with her husband 36 years ago.
She leaves six children and one sister, Mrs. William (Margaret Jane) Sapp of Sunnyside, Wash., to mourn her loss. The children reside as follows, Wm. Day of Petersburg, Neb., Mrs. Rachel Kelley of Valeria, Mrs. Clara Jinkling of Ira, Mrs. Edith Hulse and Chas. and Loraine Day of Greencastle, the two latter sons with whom she made her home of late years.
Mrs. Day was a faithful member of the Methodist Protestant church and lived an upright Christian life, doing good to all about her.
The funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 20th, in the West Point school house, and was largely attended by the friends of the deceased, who sincerely mourn her loss. The services were conducted by Rev. Baker of Collins, and the remains were laid to rest in the Day cemetery, south-east of Collins.
