Walter C. Ballard died Saturday

Walter C. Ballard, 218 12th St., died Saturday at the Mary Greeley Hospital after a short illness.

Private services will be held with the Rev. E. E. Peters of the Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Born Oct. 18, 1888 in Cambridge, he attended rural schools and spent most of his life in this area. On March 26, 1918 he married Mary Jane Hardesty in Des Moines. A farmer until 1932, he worked 23 years for the City of Ames, retiring in 1955. He was World War I veteran and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; five sons, David of R.R. 1, Maurice of Garden Grove, Calif., Fredrick of Junction City, Kan., Donald of 1220 Stafford Ave. and Norman, Texas; a brother, Bert, Chicago, Ill., 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

The body will lie in state at the Adams Funeral Home Monday and until noon on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Calvary United Methodist Church.
