She is survived by her daughter, Karen Tow (Jerry) of Champaign; grandson, Tryg Tow (June) of Peoria; granddaughter, Kristin Meadows of Naperville; five great-grandchildren; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Savoy United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ellen's name may be sent to Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa, or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Ellen was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Newark, Neb., to William and Dorothy (Christensen) Marlatt, the second of six children. She grew up on a farm in northeastern Colorado and graduated from Haxtun, Colo., High School and Colorado State University. She taught high school home economics in Colorado and married Bernard "Bernie" Skold in Longmont, Colo., in 1942. For the next 18 years, she moved frequently as an "Army wife," living in California and Utah during World War II, and in postwar Germany and France. Returning to the United States in 1949, the Skolds lived in Chicago, Fort Collins and Washington, D.C., then moved to Ames, Iowa, where Ellen lived for 47 years before moving to Champaign in 2008. She and Bernard were married for 60 years.

Throughout her life, Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter. She moved many times and always made a beautiful home with her collections of antique porcelains, silver, cloisonne and decorative glass. Wherever she lived, Ellen was active in her church and community. She loved entertaining, traveling, antiquing, bridge club, doing crafts and being with her family. She was a member of P.E.O., Questors and the National T.T.T. Society.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernie; son, Larry; brother, Willis Marlatt; and sister, Ardis Irvin. Her surviving sisters are Verda Walter of Tucson, Ariz., Bernice Myers (Bob) of Center, Colo., and Phyllis Greenbank of Fort Collins, Colo.

Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, is in charge of arrangements.
