From Fredergill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Earl Paul Gray, the son of Charles and Metta, was born October 16th 1929 in Manson Ia. He spent his early years in Manson where he graduated from high school.

Earl, being a “roady” met Joan Hass, a waitress, at her mother’s cafe, Hilda’s, in Woodward Ia. They were married on June 12th 1950. To this union were born five children, Catherine, Rebecca, Mary, John, and Brian. In his early married life, Earl dug wells then moved his family to Iowa Falls as he was employed by Iowa Falls Poultry. After Mary recovered from whooping cough, the Iowa Falls doctor adviced Earl to move his family where the air was fresh and clean. Thus he raised his family in Zearing . Yes, Zearing still has clean air!

Earl had a love for his family and work. After having several jobs, he started his business, Earl’s Sanitation, garbage and septic services, which he owned and operated for over 50 years. Earl was happiest working on a hot summer day. coming home to Joan and children and gathering around the dinner table to Joan’s delicious meals.

Earl was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council.
He was also very community minded, serving on the city council along with being a volunteer fireman for over 30 years.

End of life came peacefully to Earl on April 29th 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House.

Those remaining to cherish his life are his wife, Joan, children, Cathy Davis, Becky Ziebell, John Gray, Brian Gray and spouses, 11 grandchildren and spouses and 20 great grandchildren along with six siblings and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bear.

As Joan once wrote:
Our lives have been filled with ups and downs. Zearing is our home and we are proud of it. It is a place you can find a friend, a peaceful place. A gift from God!

God be praised for the life of Earl.
