James "Jim" Joseph McDonald
November 27, 1927 - March 2, 2015

James McDonald passed away March 2, 2015 at the age of 87. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church (2900 Hoover Ave., Ames). A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, with burial following in Evergreen Cemetery located in Jewell, Iowa.

Jim was born to John and Kathryn (Brennick) McDonald on November 27, 1927, in Jewell, Iowa. Jim graduated from Jewel High School in 1945, and he also attended Iowa State University.

Jim was a reserved man, but he was witty and always had a good one-liner to share. Jim will be remembered for his dedication to his career with the city of Ames for over 42 years, and to his co-workers, often working the holidays so others could spend time with their families. Jim loved to travel, he enjoyed his visits to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota to see the Loons, and around the country visiting historical sites from the Civil War. Jim loved to fish and spend time outdoors, his loyalty was to his family, he can be quoted as saying "I didn't know we were from a dysfunctional family, because we all get along." Jim was a devoted member of St. Cecilia Catholic Parish, where he volunteered his time.

Jim is survived by 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; John S. McDonald, Kathryn E. Brennick McDonald, brothers; John S. McDonald, Jr., William F McDonald, Chleo (Pete) McDonald, sisters; Kathryn O. McDonald Klaver, Opal R McDonald, Pearl M McDonald Politis, May E McDonald McKenna, Mary I McDonald Temple, Florence L McDonald Loder. Nieces; Theresa Temple, Sorenson and Bretta McKenna and nephew Gary Klaver, Nichols Foell.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Jim's name.
