Helen Wolken, age 94, of Nevada, Iowa, died Friday, January 9, 2015, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services.

Born October 22, 1920, in Story County, Iowa, Helen Margaret (Greiner) Wolken was the daughter of Gottlieb and Anna (Weber) Greiner. She graduated from Colo High School.

On June 2, 1940, Helen married Wallace Gilbert “Wally” Wolken in State Center. The couple farmed in Story County from 1941-63.

Helen worked in the restaurant business for many years and was known for her delicious pies. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing, baking, and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelyn (Galen) Flynn of Colo; two grandsons, Todd VanScoy of Omaha, and Jason (Courtney) VanScoy of Lincoln, NE; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandsons; and a sister-in-law, Berneice Greiner of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wally in 2005; her parents; a great-grandson, Nathan VanScoy; a brother, John Greiner; and a step-granddaughter, Melissa Viers.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Helen and her family.
