Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Janice was born on January 2, 1926 in Elkader, Iowa to Erik E. and Pearl Mae (Clark) Aarvig. She married Harold Carpenter on July 2, 1945. She worked as an assembly operator at Bournes. Janice lived most of her life in the Story City area. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, the Appaloosa Horse Assn., and the American Legion Auxiliary. She raised horses and loved riding horses, and enjoyed bird watching. She loved spending time with her family.

Janice Rachel Carpenter died January 19, 2015 at Bethany Manor in Story City at 89 years of age.

She is survived by one daughter, Dee Smith of Jewell, IA; 2 grandsons, Coy (Amy) Smith and Jake Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Alec and Brycen. She is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Harold on September 16, 1988; one brother Clark E. Aarvig and two sisters: Vera Meyers and Iva Nell Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to Elim Lutheran Church or Bethany Life Communities. Soderstrum Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
