John Knute Scott was born May 21, 1922 to John N. and Clara L. (Halverson) Scott on the family farm near Slater, Iowa. He married Marlys Cooper on November 3, 1945 and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2014.
John was a lifelong farmer and community leader. He served on the Alleman Co-op board for 29 years and as a trustee to Lincoln Township cemeteries for 25 years. He was an avid Iowa State basketball and football fan. He played first base for 17 years on the Slater Night Hawks baseball team and hit the first home run in Slater's new ball park in 1948.
John went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by his family on December 31, 2014 at 92 years of age.
John is survived by his wife, Marlys Scott, of Slater; his children, Timothy (Carla) Scott, of Simpsonville, SC, Linda (Stephen) McNiel, of Los Angeles, CA, Valerie (Terry) Coffman, of Huxley, Tracy Scott, of Des Moines, Tron (Mindy) Scott, of Polk City and Kathleen (Robert) Houge of Polk City; his grandchildren, Jay, Dana, Jon, Christian, Evan, Jamie, Mollie, Nick, Rachel, Katie, Jackson, Steven and Andy; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, LaVerna Drake; and his son, Nicholas John Scott.
