From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Fayona (Fay) Larkins (Boyer) passed away November 11, 2014, surrounded by the love of her family members, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, November 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, (607 28th St. Ames, IA 50010). Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 9 a.m., at Stevens Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Fay was born March 26, 1922, in Topeka, Kansas, to Calvert and Buena Boyer. She had one sister, Estaleda. Fay married Milton E. Larkins in Topeka in 1948. They later settled in Zionsville, Indiana, where their only child, John, was born in 1958. In 1963 the family moved to Ames. Fay spent much of her working life providing secretarial and clerical services. After moving to Ames she worked from home as a typist of theses for Iowa State University graduate students. In 1972 she began employment as a secretary at Ames High School, where she worked with the principal and vice principal's offices. After retiring from that position she later returned as a volunteer secretary in the school's English department. She loved working with the administrators, teachers and students at Ames High and was rewarded for her years of service in 1994 when she was named Staff Member of The Semester; and that same year when a brick in her name was placed in the Plaza of Heroines outside of Catt Hall at Iowa State University. She also spent many Sunday mornings volunteering as a child care provider in her church's nursery.

Fay will always be remembered as a person of a kind and generous spirit. She was selfless to a fault, and her greatest desire in life was to help others while asking for nothing in return. Her joyful and hospitable spirit touched many throughout her life.

One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her "Gammy." Many hours were spent at Gammy's house by not only the children but by the adults of the family at many gatherings she hosted.

Her husband Milton passed away in 2000. Fay is survived by her son, John Burnett-Larkins of Ames; granddaughters Krysia Hannam (Burnett-Larkins) of Altoona; Melissa Burnett-Larkins and Breanna Burnett-Larkins of Ames; great-grandsons Zachary Hannam of Altoona and Lincoln Zerr of Ames.

Another family member, Krystyna Burnett, mother of John Burnett-Larkins' wife, Karen Burnett-Larkins, passed away November 17, 2014, also at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Both she and Fay will be remembered in a joint visitation and funeral ceremony.
