HANS B. HOHN
Hans B. Hohn, 78, of Nevada died Friday, April 19, 1985, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
He was born Feb. 18, 1907, at Schobull, Denmark, which is now Germany. His parents were Paul and Anna (Brumeister) Hohn. At age 5 he went to live with his grandparents and attended school in Habburg, Germany, studying medicine until age 14 when he stowed away on a ship and came to the United States.
He came to Nevada in 1932, via the Lincoln Highway, and liked the people here and stayed. He had done carpentry and had worked for Nevada Poultry. He retired in 1976 as head custodian at Iowa State University Veterinary Dept.
He was baptized in the Lutheran Church and served as a choir boy in Hamburg, Germany. Due to political unrest, his grandparents gave him money to come to the United States. After coming to this country, Hans served in the Merchant Marine and the US Coast Guard.
He changed the spelling of his name from Hahn to Hohn.
Mr. Hohn was married to Leota M. Ingerson Jan. 2, 1933 at Bethany, Mo.
His hobby was raising exotic chicken and some rabbits and showing them at shows.
Survivors include Mrs. Hohn; three sons, Richard of Lake Elismore, Calif., Jerry of Ankeny, Ia., and Steven of Nevada; three daughters, Mary Munson ofHelena, Mont., Helen Opperman of Nevada and Sharon Adams of Maxwell; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchidlren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were at Ryan Funeral Home on Lincoln Highway in Nevada at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, with Dr. William Bass of the Nevada First Christian Church officiating. Pallbearers were Swan Terry, Loren Lock, Harold Pratt, Galen Lough, Craig Taylor and Ernie See. Organist was Arlene Huhn and vocalist was Keith Huhn.
Interment was in Nevada Cemetery.
