Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Bonnie J. Freerks was born on August 19, 1944 in Bushnell, Illinois to Kenneth and Evelyn (Sanders) Cameron was the second oldest of four children. She graduated from high school. She lost her parents as a young adult and assisted her brother to raise their youngest sister, Cindy. Bonnie married James “Jim” Freerks on February of 1967 and have been married for 47 years. They raised four children and now have six grandchildren. The family moved around the U.S. to new states and cities about every one and a half years because of Jim’s work with Younglove Construction Co. My mother also worked on the job sites with him as a secretary. Some of the longest moves were from South Carolina to Oregon, then to New Hampshire. Jim and Bonnie loved to travel, which was good thing since their job required it. Bonnie loved camping and the family went on many camping adventures together.
She has lived in Story City, the past ten years. Bonnie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved growing flowers and had a green thumb in the flower beds. She did some gardening and lots of canning. She also liked Monarch butterflies and going fishing. Bonnie was an avid reader and some of her favorite stories to read were Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen mysteries. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and loved to spoil the grandchildren. When she was younger she would watch her grandkids a lot, she took them on trips and always wanted to buy them gifts. She was very generous and was always thinking of others when she was out shopping. She loved to shop and go out for lunch.
Bonnie J. Freerks, 69, of Story City died June 15, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim Freerks of Story City, IA; two daughters: Desiree Darland of Story City; Shila Yelle of Lake City, TX; two sons: Lance Shyrock of Colfax, IA and Kenny Shyrock of Jeffersonville, IN; six grandchildren; two brothers: David Cameron of Bushnell, IL; Roger Cameron of Abingdon, IL; and one sister Cindy Johnson of Sanborn, IA.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and by her good friend Barb, whose husband also worked for Younglove. They were always meeting up somewhere for lunch, generally at Red Lobster, where they both loved those crab legs.
She was loved my many and will be missed by many.
