Phyllis Irene Daub

Phyllis Irene Daub, 85, of Nevada, went home to with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, march 30, 2011. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at the United Methcdist Church in Nevada.

Phyllis was born in Madison county on May 23, 1925, to Opal and Eric Cummins. She married Francis "Pete" Daub on December 12, 1942, and to this union six children were born. The family farmed near Albia before moving to the rural Nevada area in 1968. With Pete's skills as a carpenter, he and Phyllis built their home on the Nevada acreage. Phyllis worked for many years at Donnelleys in Nevada. After they retired, they set up a used furniture business ofr several years after Pete died.

Phyllis was devoted to her family and her friends. She loved to sew, especially quilts, and made quilts for each family member and many friends. She also sewed hundreds of quilts for various charities. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and was active in the ladies missionary group at her church. She was a good listener and friend, and she put these skills to good use by volunteering at Heartland Senior Services as a friendly visitor.

For the last few months of her life, Phyllis lived at the Story County Long Term Care facility where she made friends among both residents and staff. She was quiet person with a good sense of humor and a quick wit. With the help of her daughters, she continued quilting up until the last two weeks of her life, when she became ill.

She is survived by her four daughters: Fran (Jim) Harman of Cambridge, Judy (Ralph) Jarboe of Ames, Jennie (Howard) Spencer of Zearing, and Sally Daub (Jan Vine) of Nevada; two sons, Lee (Leslie) Daub of Nevada, and Ted (Karen) Daub of Boone; two brothers, Ken (Becky) Cummins and Richard Cummins both of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; Shari Hartman Coelho, Gary Hartman, Stacie Harman Coelho, Gary Harman, Stacie Daub Koslowski, Jason Daub, Melanie Spencer Whitehill, Molly Jarboe, Monte Hartman, Cory Spencer; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, grandson, Keith Jarboe; and three sisters and one brother.

In lieu flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the family for the Nevada Public Library and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
