Rodger French
Sept. 2, 1920 to Dec. 28, 1998Rodger Garwin French, 78, of rural Nevada died Monday, Dec. 28, at Mary Greeley Medial Center in Ames.
French was born Sept. 2, 1920, in rural Nevada to Roy and Ella (Boelk) French. He was a Fernald High School graduate and a lifelong resident of Nevada. He married Betty Jeanne Bales on June 28, 1941, in Nevada. He was a farmer and retired from the Animal Disease Lav. French was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and a social member of the American Legion William F. Ball Post No. 48. He enjoyed camping, lawn mowing and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda K. Robinson of State Center and Calista J. Boeve of Spencer, seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-sisters, Leila Theilking of Des Moines and Beulah Miller of Bishop, Calif.; and a step-brother, Don Chapman of Pine River, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Jan. 29, 1992 and a brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with the Rev. Ellen C. Taube officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
