Joyce Sullivan, 82, of Ames, Iowa passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2014 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Father James Secora will officiate with burial to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Born January 11, 1932 in Iowa City, Phyllis "Joyce" Dolmage was born to Frank and Helen (Barnes) Dolmage. She grew up in Oxford, Iowa and graduated in the class of 1949. While in high school, Joyce was a member of the girls' basketball team, softball team, and was a cheerleader for the boys' basketball team. She was also crowned queen of the annual Fall Festival popularity contest in Oxford.

Following graduation, Joyce ventured to Cedar Rapids to attend Paris Academy of Beauty Culture and earned degree which allowed her to become a licensed cosmologist on April 12, 1950.

On September 5, 1953 in Oxford, Iowa Joyce was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Emmett Sullivan. The couple made their home in Ames and were blessed with six children. Together they were faithful members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and loved to travel to various locations and visit family. Joyce volunteered at the United Way, Political Poll's, and 23 years at North Grand Care Center. She enjoyed collecting Isabel Bloom statues and reading both religious and Irish books. Most of all, she cherished her 60 years with Bob, and loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all held a special place in her heart.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob; children, Terence Michael (Robin) Sullivan of Ames, Susan Ann (Gary) Handsaker of Nevada, Daniel Robert (Julia) Sullivan of Ames, and Thomas Francis (Janelle) of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Patricia Meinhardt, Jared Meinhardt, Maggie Sullivan, John Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Trevor Davis, Tarah Davis, Mason Feaker, Caitlin Sullivan, and Ian Sullivan; and great-grandchildren, Faythe Anderson, Morgan Murphy, and Trayse Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Patricia Lynn Sullivan and Karyn Gerard Davis-Rutter.
