Earl Duane Baldus was born October 14, 1934 to Earl and Reinelda (McCoy) Baldus at home in Story City, Iowa. He grew up in the country near Gilbert and graduated from Gilbert High School in the class of 1952.

On February 18, 1957 Duane was united in marriage to Marilyn Jordan at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church. Upon getting married Duane was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. In 1969 Duane ventured out and established Baldus Electric Inc. in Ames which is still operating with Duane's core principles today. He was a member of Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, and the Moose Lodge. Duane was a motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group), and took many trips to Sturgis. He also enjoyed restoring antique Ford cars, Case VAC tractors, hobby farming, and being outside in his shop tinkering with projects. Duane and Marilyn loved to travel on their motorcycle, camping at various parks, and attending collector car auctions.

Most of all he loved spending time with Marilyn, Greg, his granddaughters, and his friends at the coffee club who all held a special place in his heart.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; son, Greg, granddaughters, Mollie, Rachel, and Shelby; three sisters, Alice McNertney, Norma Clouser, and Kathleen Naughton all of Ames; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
