From Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Harold E. Mason, 88, of Maxwell, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Collins Christian Church. Interment with military honors will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, in the Confidence Cemetery at Confidence, Iowa.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Harold was born September 28, 1925, the son of Ivan and Icil Mason. He served in the Marines Corps during World War II. He was united in marriage to Darlene Buttz on April 16, 1947 in Lancaster, Missouri. Darlene preceded Harold in death in December of 2003. Harold later married Melvalene Davis on November 17, 2006 in the Collins Christian Church. Harold had worked at John Deere for thirty-five years and then he ran the Conoco Station in Maxwell for six years. Harold attended the Collins Christian Church and was a member of the Maxwell American Legion. He loved deer hunting, camping and yard work.

Harold is survived by his wife, Melvalene Mason of Maxwell, Iowa; a son, Donald (Sharon) Mason of Albia, Iowa; and daughter, Connie Valentine of Ames, Iowa; two step-daughters: Sonja (Tim) Babcock of Ames, Iowa, Peggy (Bryon) Daggett of McCallsburg, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ivan (Helen) Mason of Allerton, Iowa.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Darlene; an infant son, Clifford Mason; his sister, Dorothy Dyer; and a step-brother, Dutch Trimble.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Collins Christian Church.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
