Richard Steven Frette was born June 5, 1948 to Otis and Elena Frette in Jewell, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. In 1968, he was called to serve in the United States Army in the Republic of Viet Nam where he received the Bronze Star. Following honorable discharge, Rick worked for his father's business, Frette Truck Line. Rick and Shirley Harmsen were married on September 11, 1971. Through this union two beautiful children were born. He worked for Butler Manufacturing for ten years and then at Iowa State University until he became ill in October of 2013.

Rick enjoyed life to the fullest playing softball until he was 40, many tennis matches with his granddaughters and hiking mountains with his son. He enjoyed every Christmas and family reunion appreciating the precious time spent with his family.

Rick passed away at 65 years of age on May 17, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Shirley Frette, of Ames; his daughter, Stefanie (Ryan) Charlson, of Story City; his son, Ryan (Noemi) Frette, of Scottsdale, Arizona; two granddaughters, Ava and Ali Charlson; and his grandson, Nathan Frette. Also surviving are two sisters, Shirley (Harlan) Dubansky, of Tucson, Arizona and Charlene (Dave) Clayberg, of Marcus, Iowa; three brothers, Ed (Rita) Frette and Ken (Susan) Frette, all of Story City and Tom (Enid) Frette, of Omaha, Nebraska; and many precious uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Story County Freedom Flight or the American Cancer Society.
