John Stratton, Pioneer Resident, Dies Early Today
John M. Stratton, 81, died this morning at 6:30 of heart affliction and other complications from which he had been a sufferer for some years.
The funeral rites will be Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Bishop Funeral home, Nevada, and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
John Stratton or "Shorty" Stratton as he was familiarly known, was amonth the oldest native sons of Story county--in his own opinion expressed a few months ago, only Curtis A. Wood of Iowa Center being an older native son of the county.
Mr. Stratton, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Stratton, was born on a farm southeast of Maxwell, but came to Nevada as a small boy and attended school in the first Nevada school house which stood on the site of the present home of Mrs. Garnet Shaw, corner of Fifth street and I avenue.
Raised to young manhood here he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Lough and two sons were born to and survive them, they being Glen and Cyril Stratton, both of near Nevada.
They lived upon various farms for years but eventually moved into Nevada and here Mrs. Stratton died a number of years ago.
