Little Child Fatally Burned at His Farm Home

Little Alan Bruce Chamberlain, age six and one-half years, second son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Chamberlain, was fatally burned when he stated a bon fire with the aid of gasoline Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the farm four and one-half miles south of Nevada.

The little one was playing alone in the yard when the mother heard his screams and rushing out found him, his clothing aflame.

Grabbing the screaming little one she dipped him in a nearby water tank where the fire was extinguished.

Then, aided by Mr. and Mrs. Hennick, she hurried the child to town and to the office of Dr. Bowers and from there to the Iowa sanitarium.

The body was badly burned from the waist line to bottom of his feet. and from the start there was no reason to think his life could be saved and he passed away Saturday night [October 3, 1942] at 9:30.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery with Dr. J. O. Simon in charge.

The mother of the little one, before her marriage was Miss Agnes Bobo, daughter of Jessie Bobo of 919 J avenue, Nevada. Besides the parents the little one is mourned by three brothers-- David 8, Glen 4 and Johnny, age a year and one-half.

The tragedy is a severe shock to the young parents and other embers of the family and they are receiving the very warm sympathy of their neighbors and friends.
