Fred Younker, Nevada resident 48 years, dies

Fred Younker, 507 G Ave., Nevada, died Monday afternoon at the age of 83. Mr. Younker lived the most of his life in Nevada and for the last twelve years had been in poor health.

The son of George and Emma Younker, he was born May 19, 1886 in Parkersburg, Iowa. He was married to Edna Wheeler of Conrad, Iowa, September 2, 1913. Mr. Younker established the first Ford Automobile Agency in Grundy County in Conrad, a year prior to his marriage.

In 1919, he and his family moved to Marshalltown but in 1921 they decided that Nevada was where they wanted to make their permanent home. Mr. Younker bought out the Ford Motor Company here, which he operated for a number of years, and then sold and bought the Flickenger Hardware Store. In his later years, he gave up his own business to work for Dillin's Department Store until he retired because of ill health. However, his pride and interest in the betterment of Nevada lasted until his remaining days.

He was always active in business and community affairs and was one of the charter members of the Indian Creek Gold and Country Club. he was also a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #99, where in a recognition meeting on May 8, 1967 received his fifty year pin. Mr. and Mrs. Younker celebrated their "50th" Wedding Anniversary September 2, 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Edna, two daughters, Mrs. Leo Neasham (Winifred) of Pompano Beach, Florida, Mrs. Darroll Hathorn (Darlene) of Cincinnatti, Ohio, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the eldest of his three daughters, Mrs. Wendell Carroll (Jeanette) in the year 1965, and three sisters, Mrs. Hary Duer, Mrs. Bert Lamb, and Mrs. O. F. Langdon.

Services will be at the Ryan Funeral Home Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Hladky officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.
