Thomas L. Handsaker
Nov. 25, 1892 to July 21, 1991

Thomas Lawman Handsaker, 99, of Colo died of respiratory failure at Grand Avenue Care Center, Ames.

H was born to John Thomas and Margaret (Lawman) Handsaker in rural Colo. He was a life-long resident of Colo. he attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls for one year. He farmed, worked with the U.S. Bureau of Entomology, worked with the Iowa State Chemistry Department, was Township clerk for 24 years, was an underwriter for State Farm Insurance Company for 30 years and was an underwriter for Central Iowa Mutual for 35 years.

He was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church. He married Ona McKinney. She preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 1954. He later married Mary Elmquist. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 1973.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Dr. Frank Hughes of Storm Lake; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ethel, and two brothers, Eugene Ralph and William.

Services were held at Colo United Methodist Church on Friday, July 24. Rev. Jack O. Weida officiated. Interment was at the Nevada Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Fredregill Funeral Home, Zearing.
