Phyllis Gertrude Clipson Rittgers, age 85, passed from this life on Monday, May 5th, 2014.

She was born in Silver City, Iowa to Hugh and Gertrude (Falwell) Clipson on August 23rd, 1928. She graduated from Lenox High School and attended Drake University where she earned her teaching certificate. She then taught school in Dallas Center, Iowa. On March 27th, 1948, she married Thomas Eugene Rittgers in Dallas Center. They resided on a farm outside of Grimes, IA. In 1949 they began farming in Marshall County near St. Anthony. Her husband, Tom, returned to college at Iowa State in 1954. In 1956 they moved to Nevada, Iowa where Phyllis taught school and Tom was employed with Hertz Farm Management. In 1999 they moved to Northcrest Community in Ames, Iowa.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Mark (Cheryl) of Ames and Gardners, PA, and Hugh of Bolingbrook, IL; her sister, Joyann Moore of Camarillo, CA; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; and a sister, Grace Gleckler.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 9 at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. Phyllis will be laid to rest in Rittgers Cemetery in Johnston.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada or Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.
