Mrs. Maria J. Lough, 97, widow of the late Addison E. Lough, died at 12:30 Sunday morning, July 7, at the Story County Hospital where she had been admitted Monday night. She had been in declining health for some time.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Ryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. C.E. Lookingbill officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Nevada Cemetery by the side of the husband who died 37 years ago. The body will rest at the Ryan Funeral Home until the time of service.

Born in the Hickory Grove neighborhood of Nevada Township, Sept. 8, 1859, Mrs. Lough would have been 98 years of age on her next birthday.
Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Fry, she was the last of a family of 10 children born to them.

On March 26, 1881 she was united in marriage to Addison E. Lough. They lived six years on what was known as the John McConnell farm south of Nevada after which time they purchased a farm at Shipley where they lived ten years. In 1902 they purchased a farm west of Shipley which was Mrs. Lough's home until 1946 when she and her daughter Clara moved to Nevada.

Mrs. Lough joined the Shipley Brethren church in 1893 under the pastorate of the Rev. Byron Clark. She was president of the Shipley Ladies Aid for four years and had been an active member of the Shipley Church and its organizations for a number of years.

Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lough, one son, Harve Lough, who preceded his mother in death, and two daughters, Clara, at home, and Mrs. Louise Anderson of Muscatine, who survive her. She also leaves three grandsons, Darrell W. Anderson and Dale Anderson of Des Moines and Don A. Anderson of Vristol, S.D. and one granddaughter, Mrs. M.T. Scott of Des Moines. Seven great grandchildren also survive her.
