From Nevada Journal October 30, 1952
John Hill, son of Thomas and Anna Hill was born in Norway on April 20, 1868 and passed away on October 20, 1952 in the local hospital at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 2 days. He had suffered a severe heart attack on October 12.
John was the son of a ship-builder and was one of a family of three brothers and two sisters. He was a real pioneer. At the age of 16 he left home and family and came alone to America and Iowa. He settled in Milford township in the vicinity of Pleasant Grove, where he attended school one winter term to learn the English language. He was married on March 4, 1895 to Nellie Harnden, daughter of a pioneer family of that community.
For a number of years he was a very successful farmer in Kossuth and Story counties. In 1912 they moved to Gilbert and he went into the real estate and automobile business. They moved to Story City in 1923, where his home has been ever since.
On November 16, 1933 his wife passed away leaving him and their daughter Helen Hill Jacobson. The daughter and seven grandchildren, namely, John, Barbara, Thelma, Ruth Ann, Thomas, David and Charles are left to mourn his death, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
John had been in retirement for a number of years, but these years have been made happy and bearable by the kindness and love of his daughter and her family.
