OBITUARY

MRS. E. H. HARNDEN

Mrs. E. H. Harnden died at her family home near Pleasant Grove Monday afternoon [November 17, 1913] after an illness of several weeks. She had been in failing health for several months and for the past two months more seriously ill. For two weeks or more she had been desperately ill, the initial trouble being necrosis of the spinal cord, but the immediate cause of her death was finally diagnosed as a low grade of typhoid fever. Friends had warning that her prospect of recovery was slight, and though her death is a great grief it is not a surprise.

Minnie Calhoun was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Calhoun and was born near Blue Earth, Minn., Sept. 6, 1867. She died as stated in this county November 17, 1913 aged 46 years, 2 months and 11 days. She came with her family as a child to Nevada and here spent the years of her youth and much of the period of her womanhood. She graduated from the Nevada high school in 1885, attended school and taught at Battle Creek, Michigan, and was there married in November 1896 to E. H. Harnden, who was also of this county. After her marriage she taught further in Battle Creek and Stuart in this state and was with her husband in Oregon. In all this time she was frequent visitor in Nevada and about three years ago they returned definitely to this county and established their home on the old Harndon farm in Milford township, where she died. She leaves her husband and mother and brother but no children.

Mrs Harnden was a most talented and admirable woman, sweet of disposition and most faithful in her work. She was loved where she was known, and her loss is most profoundly felt. Her funeral will be conducted Wednesday at one-thirty o'clock from the Adventist church by Prof. Lamson, and the interment will be in the Nevada cemetery.
