ROYCE W. NEBERGALL

Royce W. Nebergall, 91, former Story County Sheriff and chief of the Iowa Bureau of Investigation, died Tuesday, May 24, 1983 in Braeside, Ontario, Canada, of kidney failure.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Bruial will be at the Nevada Cemetery.

Nebergall was involved in law enforcement for more than 50 years. He served as sheriff of Story County from 1922 to 1930. He then joined the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, now known as the Division of Criminal Investigation, and in 1939 was name chief. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1957.

He was life member and past president of the Iowa State Sheriff's Association and was life member of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police.

He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 37 in Ames, and a member of the Benevolence Lodge 145 AF&AM in Mason City, Scottish Rite and Knights of Mystic Shrine.

Survivors include a son, Max of Braeside; three sisters; a brother; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
