Gurney Hennick Buried Here on Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here Suandy for Gurney Hennick, 26, former Nevada girl, who had died on Thursday at a sanitarium near Neosha, Mo., following a lingering illness. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock. There were two vocal solos by Mrs. Ansel Freeland with Mrs. Garnet Hathaway at the organ.

Previously, services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Methodist church in Neosha, Mo.

The following obituary of the deceased was read by the minister during the services:

"Gurney Hennick was born Dec. 1, 1913, at Cambridge, Ia., and passed away Oct. 31, 1940, at the age of 26 years and 11 months.

"She attended school for six years in Nevada, Ia., finishing the last six years in Neosha, Mo. graduating with the class of 1932.

"She joined the Methodist church at Nevada, Ia., in 1926, later transferring her letter to the Methodist church at Neosha. Until ill health prevented, she was active in the young people's activities of the church.

"Gurney had been in ill health for some time and her friends and family realized the seriousness of her condition. She will be greatly missed by those who stood by and watched the wonderful patience and enduring faith she showed all during her suffering.

"Gurney was preceded in death by two older sisters, Hazel, who died on July 6, 1911, at the age of 13; Lucille, who died May 13, 1926 at the age of 23; and Edward who passed away June 20, 1940, at the age of 21 years.

"Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hennick; two brothers, Chester and Herbert Hennick of Neosha; three sisters, Mrs. Irma Maxwell of Nevada, Mrs. Feye Dunkle of Neosha and Hariette at home.
