Ruby Straker, 89, of Ames, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Karen Acres Nursing Home in Urbandale, Iowa.

Ruby was born on August 31, 1924 to William and Olivia Penn Matthews in Orient, Illinois. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and was married to Lloyd Straker of Herrin, IL on June 20, 1947. Prior to their moving to Ames, the couple lived in Springfield, IL. Ruby worked at Iowa State University as a secretary to the agriculture administrator in the Extension Administration Service.

Ruby is survived by two daughters, Shirley Straker and Janet (Steve) Schultz, both of Grimes; grandchildren, Matthew, Gregory, Julie and Laura Schultz, and a sister, Nella Lougeay of Carbondale, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years and her parents.
