Lee Ray Macdonald, 74, of Cambridge, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:30 am at Faith Baptist Church, 401 2nd St., Cambridge with burial to follow at the Cambridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 2 – 5 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St, Ames.

Lee was born December 16, 1939 on the family farm in Boone County; the son of Archie and Mabel Lee Musgrove Macdonald. He attended school at United Community Schools and married Edna Nazworthy on July 14, 1958. Edna passed March 7, 1975. Lee later married Betty Pettingill Brink on August 9, 1975 and she passed on September 23, 2009. Lee spent most of his working career at Donnelly's in Nevada and retired in 2005.

Lee loved trains. He enjoyed traveling, reading, camping and spending time with friends and family. He was an avid collector of anything model railroad. Lee was a member of St. Croix Rail Road of Hudson, WI, Huxley Senior Citizens and LIFT.

Lee is survived by his children, Dennis Macdonald of Indianola, Allen (Deb) Macdonald of Des Moines, Becky (Steve) Lewis of Cambridge, Faye (Ken) Swan of Ames, Greg (Denise) Macdonald of McCallsburg, Heath (Susan) Macdonald of Indian Trail, NC, and Ivy Macdonald of Carlisle; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 stepdaughters; a stepson; a brother, Lysle (Judy) Macdonald of Boone; a sister, Joan Wengert of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Edna and Betty; son, Carl Macdonald; a grandson, Denny Macdonald and a sister, Yvonne "Cookie" Sime.
