Edward Glenn Sampson, 90, of Nevada, passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2014, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Glenn was born February 24, 1924, to Ed and Gustie (Thompson) Sampson in Roland. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland and graduated from Milford School in 1943. In 1948, Glenn married Ethyleen Johnson at Bergen Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Milford, Roland and Nevada area.

Glenn served from September 1945 to February 1947 in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada where he served on the church council. Glenn served on the board of Farm Bureau, Heart of Iowa Coop, 40-8, Nevada Senior Citizen Center, William F. Ball Legion Post #48, VFW and the Nevada Community Historical Society. He worked at NVSL in heating and cooling for 14 years. Glenn enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities, playing cards and family gatherings.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Ethyleen; his son, Douglas (Diana); his daughter, Rebecca (Larry Moore) Miller; four grandchildren, Megan Toney, Todd, Amy and Cory Sampson; six great-grandchildren, Jon, Autmn, Ellie and Dylan Toney and Dereck and Brenden Miller; his sisters, Inez Rudny and Ione French; and his brother, Loren (Arlene) Sampson. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, four sisters; and one grandson, Seth Miller in 2008.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Bacon Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Roland Cemetery in Roland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada Community Historical Society or the Nevada Senior Center.
