L. P. SORENSEN

NEVADA: L. P. "Pete" Sorensen, 67, and his son-in-law, Raymond G. Ayers, 45, were killed Thursday afternoon when their car skidded out of control and collided with a semi-trailer on Highway 30, just west of the Nevada Brick and Tile plant.

The accident occurred about 5:30 as Sorensen and Ayers were returning to their farm in Milford Township. Elmer Richardson, 49, Slater, who was driving the truck with a load of hogs to Dubuque, escaped without injury.

Both men were hurled from the car. Ayers was killed instantly and Sorensen died a few minutes after the accident.

The car ended up about 150 feet from the point of collision and was completely demolished. Extensive damage was done to the truck.

Coroner Merton Johnson was called to the scene of the accident along with Deputy John Stark and Patrolman Gene Hill of Ames.

Funeral Services

Double funeral services for the accident victims will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. in Memorial Lutheran church with the Rev. E. P. Windman and the Rev. David Ash officiating. Burials will be in the Nevada cemetery. The bodies will remain at the Ryan Funeral Home until Saturday at 12 o'clock when they will be taken to the church.

Surviving L. P. Sorensen are the wife, Anna, three sons, James of Cambridge, Edward of Colo and Charles of Nevada, and two daughters, Mary Jane, Mrs. Raymond Ayers, and Joan, Mrs. Wm. Cody, both of Nevada. He also leaves three brothers, Fred, Harry and Herman, all of Nevada and four sisters, Mrs. Mont Hansen and Mrs. Herbert Shearman, Nevada, Mrs. Oscar Strine, Arlington, Va. and Mrs. Herman Gunder of Flushing, L. I., New York.
