Maxwell- Jean O. Egeland, 93, of Maxwell, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Jean was born April 30, 1920, the daughter of Oswald and Mary Ann (Lee) Lewis. She was a lifelong member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge and was active in choir, Ladies Aid and was a Sunday school teacher. Jean also volunteered for many years at the Maxwell Museum. She married Alexander Egeland July 26, 1947, and farmed near Maxwell for 60 years. They had two sons, Paul and John.

Jean is survived by her sons, Paul (Deb) Egeland of Centerville and John (Rae) Egeland of Ames; her seven grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Ann (Leo) Miller; along with many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Amelia; her husband, Alex; and two sisters, Helen and Erma.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge with Pastor Marcia Kisner officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Palestine Cemetery in rural Huxley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nazareth Lutheran Church or the Maxwell Museum.
