Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Betty Ann Bowman was born October 1, 1943 to Guy Elroy and Helen Marie (Hudson) Allee in Grenada, Mississippi. During her younger years, the family lived in a number of cities finally coming to Burlington, Iowa when she was in junior high where she met Michael Bowman. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1961 after spending a semester in Denmark as an exchange student and went on to graduate from State College of Iowa (now UNI) with a degree in teaching in 1965. Betty and Mike Bowman were married August 15, 1965 in Burlington. They spent their 48 years of marriage in Ames where they raised their 2 children, Kimberly and Brian, and enjoyed the community. Betty touched the lives of many students while teaching first grade for about 30 years including substituting. Betty was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation in Ames where she was active in many groups and served on a number of committees over the years. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, genealogy, singing with the Sunshine Family, and gathering for “coffee” with friends, but her favorite joy was spending time with her family especially those week long visits in the summer with the grandkids.

Betty passed away February 12, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 70 years of age.

Betty is survived by her husband, Mike Bowman, of Ames; her mother, Helen Allee, of Ames; her children, Kimberly (Greg) Larson, of Marion and Brian (Colleen) Bowman, of Oswego, Illinois; five grandchildren, Alyssa Larson, of Waverly (Wartburg College), Logan Larson of Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas, Abigail, Brianna and Hayden Bowman, all of Oswego; and a cousin, Helen Marie Singleterry, of Borger, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father and her grandson, Grady Larson.
