Bessie Janda age 94, of the Eastern Star home of Boone passed away Sunday December 29, 2013. A gathering of friends and family will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan 2, 2014 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way with a celebration of life memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan 6, 2014 at Cedar Memorial Park 4200 First Avenue Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A burial will follow at Czech Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bessie was born August 8, 1919 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Joseph and Frances Syrovy. She
started dating Bud Janda when she was sixteen and they were married on August 19, 1940. She was employed at Nelson's Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids after the children were raised where they called her mom or grandma. She was a 55 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies
Auxiliary and Drill team: she served as President and all other offices. She spoke fondly of all her wonderful friends until the very end and always considered the Eagles her "home". She bowled in many leagues until her early 70's, mostly with her friends from the Eagles and her daughter Donna. Even into her 70"s she carried an average of 160 and in her earlier days her picture and name was in the Cedar Rapids Gazette several times with her high games and series.Bessie is survived by her daughter and son-in law: Ron and Donna Moorman of Ames, Granddaughters, Kimberly (Jeff) Mosiman and Shelley Osmundson, of Ames, Lisa (Archie) Abben, Kristi (Blake) Homewood, of Cedar Rapids and Mindy (Darwin) Carstensen of Marion; Great grandchildren, Zachary,
Comer and Sam Mosiman, Matthew and Tyler Osmundson, Levi and Jaxon Lewis all of Ames Andrea Homewood, Kiara(Mike) Harvey,Cassandra and Ashley Luzum, John, Owen and Dane Carstensen, Jacob & Jordan Harnish all from the Cedar Rapids area, and Great-great grandchildren, Brayden Peck, Ava Huber and Colby Perrin; daughter-in-law, Diane Janda, Florida and a very special friend, Connie Sanders.

their familiesShe was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Bud, son, Douglas Janda, brothers, Jerry, Charles & Fred Syrovy and a sister Libby Orend, granddaughter Jilane Harnish, and great-great grandson Blaine Luzum.
