Charles DeFore died Monday

Charles E. DeFore, 83, 916 Northwestern Ave., died at Mary Greeley Hospital about 2 a.m. Friday after a long illness.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy C. Key of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. DeFore was born March 17, 1886 at Epworth. He came to Ames in 1900 and was formerly employed by the Chicago North Western Railroad, James Thompson and Sons and the Rushing Grocery Store.

He belonged to the First Christian Church.

He married Anna Sarah Craun, in April 1913. She preceded him in death in 1964.

Survivors include two sons, John A. DeFore, 328 South Washington Ave., Harold E. DeFore of Des Moines; three daughters, Lucille DeFore, 915 Northwestern Ave., Mrs. Dorothy Kelso, 917 Duff Ave., and Mrs. Mary Offenstein Jr., Storm Lake; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Winfred DeFore, Des Moines and Loyd DeFore, 122 High St.; and a sister, Mrs. R. E. Carr, 505 East 16th St.

In addition to wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert DeFore, in Nov., 1969; four brothers and a sister.
