Joseph Dale "Swede" Heintz, 93 of Nevada passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Burial of the cremains, with military rites, will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Dale was born on September 28, 1920 in Story County to Lew Francis and Nellie (Gunn) Heintz. He graduated from Fernald High School in 1939. Dale served during W.W. II in the U.S. Army. On April 25, 1946, he was united in marriage to Josephine Bernice Anderson in Nevada. Dale loved the land and was an excellent farmer. He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and the Nevada American Legion Post #48. Dale enjoyed woodworking, playing fast pitch softball, and camping.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Josephine of Nevada; four sons Stephen (Delores) Heintz of Carrollton, TX, Dan (Judy) Heintz, Lynn (LuAnn) Heintz, and Gary (Donna) Heintz; a daughter-in-law, Cyndie Heintz, all of Nevada; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother Bill Heintz of Ames; and a sister Mary (Vic) Chernivsky of Downers Grove, IL.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a son Bruce on September 9, 2004, three brothers Merrill, Jack, and Gene.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21 from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church.
A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Dale for the Memorial Lutheran Church, Iowa Hospice, and the Nevada American Legion Flag Fund.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Dale and his family.
