From Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Margaret (Howe) Schnur, 91, of Colo, Iowa, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, from complications of Congestive heart failure at Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the Colo United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Colo Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Margaret was born November 28, 1922 in Lewiston, Maine and adopted by John and Fannie Howe. She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1940 and was employed at Stowell’s Woolen Mill. She married Ralph F. Schnur February 23, 1946 in Bryant Pond, Maine. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Colo, United Methodist Women, World Outlook Club, Farm Bureau Women, and Southeast New Albany Club.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and volunteer. She served as the organist at the Colo EUB and United Methodist churches for many years. She enjoyed music, gardening, reading, watching birds, and spending time with her family.

Margaret is survived by one son: William Schnur of Colo, Iowa; three daughters: Mary (Mel) Campbell of Burlington, Iowa, Elizabeth Ann Law of Altoona, Iowa, Jolene Van Waus of Colo, Iowa; one daughter-in-law: Miriam (Jeff) Titus of Collins, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Christopher Campbell, Brett (Tara) Van Waus, Heath (Erin) Van Waus, Jana Schnur-Titus, Matthew Schnur, Brian Titus, JB (fiancé Stephanie Miller) Law, Jacob (Kelsey) Schnur; one grand-daughter-in-law: Jenni Schnur; one great-grandchild: Damen Van Waus; two half-brothers: Robert Blake, Robert Sanborn; and one half-sister: Helen Delphonse.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph (2002); a son: David Schnur (1984); a grandson: Nathaniel Schnur (2011); three brothers: Del Howe, Edwin Howe, John Howe; three half-brothers: Everett Sanborn, Kenneth Sanborn, Donald Sanborn; and three half-sisters: Caroline Cram, Genevieve Blake, and Mary Blake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Colo United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
