Gertrude D. Smith Rites Wednesday

Gertrude D. Smith, 79, wife of J. B. "Jack" Smith, died suddenly Sunday afternoon at her home 102 York S.E. She had lived in Mason City 28 years. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 16, 1877 in Nevada, Iowa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chapman. She was married to J. B. Smith June 28, 1899 in Nevada. They came to Mason City from Nevada. She attended the First Methodist Church in Mason City and was a member of the Eastern Star, D.A.R., and the East State Street Club.

Surviving are her husband and two sisters: Belle Appelgate, Nevada and Elva Harrington, Mason City. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Major Memorial Chapel. The Rev Charles F. Haigh, associate pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 2 p.m. Tuesday time of services.
