Nevada Woman Is Victim of Gas From Cookstove

NEVADA -- Mrs. Elma Martin, 59, was found dead in the kitchen of her home Monday evening at 6:30 by her son, Delbert Martin when he called to take her to his home to spend the night. Asphyxiation was the cause of death according to the physician who was called. She had been dead for more than an hour when found and the house was filled with gas escaping from a cook stove.

Mrs. Martin had been a semi-invalid since last October when she sustained a stroke of apoplexy. Since that time she has been cared for part of the time in her home and at the homes of her two sons Lester F. Martin and Delbert Martin. Recently she had been staying in her home during the day and spending the night at the home of her son Delbert.

It is thot Mrs. Martin had suffered a heart attack, became dizzy and in falling over the stove had turned on one of the gas burners.

Funeral services will be held at the Memorial Lutheran church Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.

Mrs. Martin for many years served as a stenographer in the office of her husband the lat J. F. Martin, during the years he practiced law here. In more recent years she served as deputy county recorder under Mrs. Hattie D. Fowler and was engaged in that work when she was stricken with apoplexy last fall. She was for many years active in the Women's Relief corps of the state and had held a state office in the organization. She was also a member of the Memorial Lutheran church.

Surviving are one son, Delbert Martin, a stepson Lester F. Martin, both of Nevada, and a daughter, Mrs. Hale B. Slavin, who was married last June and who resides in Las Vegas, Nev.
