Irene Hazel Smith
May 21, 1909 to Jan. 31, 2003Irene Hazel Smith, 93, died Jan. 31 at the Story County Medical Center from a heart ailment.
She was born May 21, 1909, in South Cakota to John "Joe" and Anna Christina (Johnson) Larson. She graduated from Story City High School and attended Business College for one year. She married David Adams Smith on Aug. 18, 1934 in Story City. She had worked at RH Donnelley and Dillin's Department Store in Nevada. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church of Nevada. She was an avid golfer and loved to cook.
Survivors include a grandson, Jeff (and Donna) Trogdon of Grand Junction, Colo., and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 14, 1982; her daughter, Patricia Trogdon, who died Jan. 26, 2003; adn two brothers, Milton Larson and Grant Larson; and two sisters, Ethel Dillin and Ruby Havens.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 10, at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. The Bacon Funeral Home, Nevada, handled the arrangements.
