After spending his early years at Grandview he moved to Champaign County, Ill., where he married Malinda Knott. To this union five children were born, four of whom are living. One son, Kenneth is deceased. The living children are Mrs. E. M. Russell of Tama, Mrs. Kenneth Carroll of Nevada, William and Robert of Santa Ana, Calif.

Most of his life he was a farmer.

In recent years Mr. Mansfield made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Carroll of near Nevada. For several months he had been in failing health. He realized that the time of his departure was near at hand having stated at various times that he was living on borrowed time.
