From Chet Ryan Mortuary obituary, Nevada, Story County, Iowa:

Phyllis Mae Mendenhall, 88, formerly of Maxwell, died on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Per her wishes, no public service will be held. Private burial of the cremains will take place in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, IL.

Phyllis was born on November 11, 1924 in Lancaster, WI to Floyd A. and Thelma (Pennoch) Tannahill. She was a 1943 Fairfield High School graduate. On December 20, 1943 Phyllis was married to Robert Lee Mendenhall in Los Angeles, CA. They resided in San Diego and Los Angeles. Upon Robert's death in 1967, Phyllis moved to Huntington Beach where she was employed as an accountant. In 1985, she retired and moved to Oregon and then resided in Anchorage Alaska from 1988-1994. While in Anchorage, Phyllis was very active in the V.F.W. and Mabel T. Senior Center. When she moved to Maxwell in 1994, she was a member of the Maxwell American Legion Auxiliary, Literary Club and the R.S.V.P. of Ames. Phyllis loved volunteering, playing cards and cribbage.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Vicki (David) Swensen of Nevada; two grandchildren Andrea Mendenhall and Floyd Douglas Mendenhall; three grandsons; and a brother Curtis (Linda) Tannahill of Fairfield Glade, TN.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1967, two sons Robert in April of 2013 and Doug in November of 1995, a brother Robert Tannahill, two sisters Mildred Furno and Jean Wood.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Phyllis.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Phyllis and her family.
