Obituary for "Gene" Eugene Furman

Eugene C. Furman, 90, of Story City died October 17, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be Saturday October 19 at 10:30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery near Story City. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 at Bethany Manor.

Gene was born on April 20, 1923 in Story City to Lloyd and Alma (Johnson) Furman. He married Florence Matheason on November 29, 1942. Gene worked as a finish carpenter and master plumber for H & F builders for 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City American Legion and the Moose Lodge. Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling and especially his great grandchildren’s school activities.

He is survived by his wife Florence of Story City; a daughter, Carol Vekre (Ron) of Story City; a granddaughter Connie (Jeff) Osmundson, three great grandsons TJ, Tanner and Colton, a great-great granddaughter, Sophia, and a sister, Muriel Stone of Massachusetts.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Lyle and two sisters, Ardyce Hoffman and Leila Smith.
