Roy Stackhouse
Roy (R.C.) Stackhouse, 91, Ankeny, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 28 at Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines after a short illness.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday, Aug. 30, Ankeny Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Varce officiating. He was assisted by a grandson of the deceased, James Stackhouse, who is studying for the ministry. Mrs. Stackhouse also conducted a prayer service for the family and friends at the funeral home the preceding evening.
Serving as pallbearers for their grandfather were Stanley Doser, William Maas, Dennis James, Randy and Donnie Stackhouse. Burial was in Nevada cemetery.
Roy Stackhouse was born May 8, 1885 in Henry County, Ill. the son of George and Mary Elliott Stackhouse. On Sept. 2, 1908 he married Dessa Elliott of McCallsburg, Iowa. He came to Central Iowa in 1910 to farm. he continued in this occupation until his retirement. Most of his farming years were spent in northwest Marshall County. He lived in Nevada a few years before moving to Ankeny 12 years ago.
He is survived by his widow Dessa, who now resides at Polk City, Iowa nursing home where the couple had lived for just two weeks.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Naomi (Lawrence) Doser, McCallsburg; Mrs. Ruth (Irvin) Maas, Marshalltown, four sons, Richard, Des Moines; Herrill, Ankeny; J.K., Lacona, Iowa; and Donald Delano, California Twenty three grandchildren; thirty six great grandchildren; two beothers, Elliott, Galesburg, Ill; and Clyde, Cambridge, Ill.
Preceding him in death were two infant daughters, two grandsons, one great grandson, three sisters and a brother.
