From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Lila Grace Reynoldson Randles, 95, of Ames, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Northcrest Community following a short battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at Northcrest Community, 1801 20th Street, Ames, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM preceded by a private family interment at Ames Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 1:30 – 3:30 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St, Ames.

Lila was born on February 7, 1918 on the family farm near Albion, Nebraska; the daughter of Walter and Mabel Sallach Reynoldson. She graduated from Albion High School in 1936 as the top student in the county and attended school at Wayne State College where she trained to be a teacher. Lila married Kenneth Edwin Randles on March 1, 1941 in Albion and the couple was blessed with three children. Lila taught in a one room school house for five years before devoting her life to her family. She sold Avon products for many years as a means of sending her children to college.

In addition to being devoted to her family, Lila enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and canning the fruits of that garden, and was a self-taught expert in culinary arts. In later years, Lila volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as a resident advocate at Northcrest Community. She was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Ames, where she was a member since 1946.

Lila is survived by her children, Karen (Jim) Schwarz of Dubuque, Loran (Sue) Randles of New Castle, Colorado and Howard (Myra) Randles of Ames; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ward (Pat) Reynoldson of Des Moines; a sister, Marian (Ken) Daugherty of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on August 18, 1994.

As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Food at First, (a free meal program opened to anyone who is hungry, associated with First United Methodist Church), PO Box 87, Ames, IA 50010. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com.
